Not surprisingly, the stylish Boxer has long been a draw for celebrities. In its heyday, the I940s and ’50s, a number of well-known movie stars and sports figures shared their lives with the breed.
The owners included Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall (often pictured with their three Boxers, according to Boxer expert Billie McFadden of Flemington, New Jersey), Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Gene Autry, Gary Cooper, Nat King Cole, Joe DiMaggio, Rita Hayworth and Danny Kaye.
The breed has lost none of its luster for modern-day stars.
Among the actors and sports stars who fancy Boxers are George Clooney (wonder which one is more handsome?); Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, who found their Boxer on a freeway; Jodie Foster; tennis pro Steffi Graf; NASCAR drivers Bobby Hamilton and Kevin Harvick; Janet Jackson; john Larroquette; Sinbad; AI Pacino; Sylvester Stallone; and Shirley McLain. McFadden says, “Shirley McLain once said the only time her Boxer didn’t sound the alarm that someone was coming in was when it was her brother, Warren Beatty.”
